Computer Skills featured in the PRT 5460/6460 Electronic Marketing Course
The following computer/software skills are the focus of the PRT 5460/6460 Electronic Marketing course. The course includes the development of an electronic portfolio, a blog on electronic marketing, numerous edited photos displayed in the photo gallery, several animations displayed in the flash gallery, and all graphics found throughout the portfolio, including the banner above. It is hoped that the display of the related outcomes will demonstrate that the students who have taken this course are well prepared to serve their future employers needs in marketing and social media.
- Adobe PhotoShop CS5 Gallery: Photoshop is a state-of-art graphics editing software that every professional photographer, print and media designers, or marketer will attest is the single most important software for editing, enhancing, and manipulating photos. Students in the Electronic Marketing course are encouraged to step beyond the required lessons and develop their skills with the selection, drawing, painting, cropping & slicing, typing, and retouching tools.
- Adobe Flash Professional CS5 Gallery: Flash provides a designer-friendly space for illustrators and animators to draw simple to complex animations. This Adobe product allow any website to be designed utilizing some very powerful and dynamic interactive elements.
- Social Media Activities: Gone are the days when word of mouth marketing required face-to-face communication. Consider how the Internet has changed customer behavior over the past decade. Before we book our hotel rooms we check out reviews posted to TripAdvisor. If we are out about town and decide to stop for dinner, we can look up possible choices on our SmartPhone. As soon as we check in with the hostess at our local restaurant, we are checking into FourSquare to see if there are any coupons or tweeting for their friends to join them for dinner. We can purchase tickets for a movie and select our preferred seats while still at the restaurant. We take some quick photos of our dinner party or our special dessert and post them on Facebook and Instagram all with our SmartPhone.. A dissatisfied customer no longer needs to wait to get home to tell someone about a poor server or the noisy hotel room. Customers communicate with known and unknown friends in minutes of a positive or negative Moment of Truth. Therefore, students today need to be aware of not only how to utilize social media, but understand how to measure the ROI (return on investment) or message effectiveness. With most businesses constantly running contests through these social media sites, marketers need to be wary of equating seemingly high popularity to quality. Students need to know how to cultivate relationships with customers and foster brand loyalty in the dynamic social media marketplace.
